Too important to leave to guesswork

Confidence in every transaction. Less risk.

Customers expect transparency, metal prices move quickly, and buying decisions have to be made at the counter. Traditional methods still have a role — but they may not give you the speed, consistency or professional presentation a modern trade environment needs.

  • Acid testing is subjective and leans heavily on experience
  • Hallmarks may be missing, worn or simply unreliable
  • Plated and mixed-metal items can be difficult to identify
  • Customer trust depends on clear, professional testing

Three areas checked in the time it takes to prepare a single acid test — and nothing on the piece is filed or marked. Better information, arrived at faster, in front of the customer.

Illustrative example. Test times vary with sample and settings; acid testing time depends on operator and method.

Why XRF

What a proper analyser changes.

Accurate results

Precise elemental analysis of gold, silver, platinum and the common alloying metals used in jewellery and bullion.

Non-destructive

No scratching, filing or cutting. Safe for jewellery, coins, watches and antique pieces you cannot afford to mark.

Fast at the counter

Results in around 30 seconds, so customers keep moving and staff aren't left waiting on a judgement call.

Know what's inside

See the full elemental breakdown, including unexpected elements such as cadmium, lead and nickel.

Avoid costly mistakes

Reduce the risk of paying gold prices for plated, mixed-metal or counterfeit items.

Affordable access

A predictable monthly subscription instead of a large capital purchase and a depreciating asset.

Using the StaRk Pro

A test takes eight steps.

Your team will be trained on site, but this is the whole routine — from switching on to handing the customer a printed report. Tap through each step.

Before anyone runs a test

XRF equipment is regulated under IRR17. Every Aimgold PRO subscription includes operator training and RPA-supported IRR17 onboarding, so your team understands both how to run the StaRk Pro and the procedures required for safe use. Never operate the unit with the safety interlock bypassed or the lid open, and replace the sample-chamber safety film when it becomes worn.

One item, multiple stories

Where you test changes what you learn.

A single piece may contain different alloys, solder, plating and replacement components. Testing one area alone may not tell you the full story — on some bracelets the clasp alone can weigh around 5g.

Gold cuban link bracelet with five marked test points
1

Main body

Represents the principal alloy of the item.

2

Clasp

May differ from the main body, or be a replacement component.

3

Solder joint

Repairs can introduce different metals and affect the reading.

4

Edge or worn area

Gives a reading less influenced by surface treatment.

5

Repaired section

Mixed construction shows up when you test several locations.

Why multi-point testing matters

On some bracelets the clasp alone may weigh around 5g. At current gold values, getting that wrong could mean misjudging hundreds of pounds of gold value. That is why multi-point testing matters.

Protect your margin

Identify unexpected variations before pricing.

Quote with confidence

Base your offer on more complete information.

Explain the result

Show customers why different areas may produce different readings.

Different areas may also contain unexpected elements that warrant further investigation.

Bank-grade XRF technology

Meet the StaRk Pro.

We supply the Aczet StaRk Pro desktop XRF range, designed for the most demanding precious metal testing environments. Aczet XRF technology is trusted in over 1,500 banking locations across Asia, including branches of State Bank of India, IDBI Bank, Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Central Bank of India and Indian Bank.

This is a true desktop system rather than handheld architecture in a box — a larger chamber, stable sample positioning and better suitability for frequent daily use.

Add another layer of confidence.

A density balance measures an item's density from its mass in air and in water. XRF analyses the surface; density assesses the whole object. Together they give a more complete picture — particularly useful on gold bars, coins, regularly shaped items and higher-value purchases, or when an XRF surface result looks unusual.

Capacity 610g · resolution 0.001g · minimum 5g sample. Not suitable for stone-set, hollow, spring-loaded or mixed-material items, or anything that may trap air.

Scale with confidence, trust & compliance

Why rent when you can just buy one?

It's a fair question, and one we're asked often. Plenty of established jewellers could buy an analyser outright. Aimgold PRO is a more flexible way to access the same technology — with installation, training, IRR17 onboarding, servicing and support included, and without the capital cost, depreciation risk or ownership burden.

Outright purchase

  • Large upfront capital cost
  • Downtime risk if the unit develops a fault
  • Arrange your own RPA and manage IRR17/HSE registration
  • Risk of ageing technology
  • Multiple units across branches take significant capital

Aimgold PRO rental

  • Manageable monthly payments
  • Replacement and support options to keep you operational
  • RPA-supported IRR17 onboarding and HSE registration guidance
  • Greater flexibility as newer technology develops
  • Easier multi-site deployment on predictable monthly costs

Rental payments may usually be treated as a business operating expense. Tax treatment depends on your business circumstances — please seek independent accounting advice.

Frequently asked

The questions we get most.

X-ray fluorescence is a non-destructive method used to analyse the elemental composition of precious metals quickly and accurately.

No. XRF testing is completely non-destructive — the item is not scratched, cut or melted during analysis.

Yes. Operators need appropriate training to use XRF equipment safely and correctly. Every Aimgold PRO package includes equipment training and IRR17 radiation-safety onboarding, so your team understands both how to operate the StaRk Pro and the procedures required for safe use.

If your business uses an XRF you have legal responsibilities under IRR17 to protect employees and others from unnecessary exposure to ionising radiation. A suitable Radiation Protection Adviser must be consulted on the arrangements appropriate to your business. Our onboarding process guides you through the information, training and RPA-supported compliance steps needed to put your XRF into operation correctly.

Many smaller desktop units are built on lower-power handheld architecture placed inside a desktop enclosure. The StaRk Pro is a true desktop system with a larger testing chamber and stable sample positioning, better suited to frequent use. The larger chamber also makes it easier to test bigger jewellery pieces and certain antique items, improving positioning, consistency and repeatability.

Your subscription includes technical support and service. Where a fault affects normal use, we aim to provide a replacement unit quickly to help keep your business running.

Yes. Rental suits multi-site jewellers and pawnbrokers well, letting you deploy XRF testing across branches on predictable monthly costs.

As a screening tool, yes. The StaRk Pro can help identify elements such as cadmium, lead and nickel that may warrant further investigation, supporting your product due-diligence process. XRF screening alone should not be treated as proof that an item complies with all applicable UK REACH restrictions.
